Robert Swift
Robert established the Fund in 2006-07, acting as initial CEO on secondment from HSBC. He was responsible for the creation and development of the Fund, establishing it as the leading specialist private equity fund in the infrastructure and energy sector in the MENA region. Having concluded his secondment, Robert is now responsible for managing HSBC's principal investment business across the MENA region and India. Prior to the Fund, Robert was a Managing Director in the infrastructure and energy sector teams in the Project and Export Finance ("PEF") division of HSBC Bank plc, which he joined in 1988 after graduating from the University of Edinburgh. He has broad experience across the transportation, Public-Private Partnership and utility sectors. An investment banker of nineteen years standing, Robert has been an infrastructure specialist for the last fifteen years.
Robert led some of the most significant infrastructure financings undertaken by HSBC. He completed the financing of the A41 road project in France (awarded Project Finance 2005 Road Infrastructure deal of the year) and the leveraged financing of the Abertis acquisition of the French toll road operator Sanef and the financing for the Duerganck Dock port project at the Port of Antwerp. Earlier transactions included the HSL Zuid project in The Netherlands, road projects in Spain, The Netherlands and Finland and IWPP projects in the Middle East. Other transaction experience includes a range of airports, light rail and power transactions internationally.
