Michael Kershaw
Michael Kershaw is Managing Director in the HSBC Principal Investments global management office, responsible for major transactions involving investment by HSBC, with particular focus on investments with partners in the Middle East and Asia, and those partnered with Sovereign Wealth Funds. Prior to this latest responsibility, Michael was located in London and Hong Kong, responsible for senior relationships and strategic advisory support to Government and Government owned clients worldwide, for HSBC's China International business development and for HSBC's debt and equity financing platform in Asia Pacific, including loans, bonds, securitisation, export finance and associated debt, project finance and balance sheet advisory services. He has over 30 years of experience of projects, corporate finance and financings worldwide and over twenty years of experience of Asia.
Prior to joining HSBC, Michael was Head of Project Finance at BT plc in the UK, where he led licence and franchise financing, global customer finance and global alliance corporate finance, negotiated structuring and implementation of the US$5 billion 1994 alliance between BT plc and MCI Corp. and acted as CFO in the creation of the US$1 billion Concert joint venture. From 1973 to 1990 Michael worked for Balfour Beatty in private power development in the UK electricity industry, and in financing and negotiating major energy and infrastructure projects worldwide (including China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Nigeria, Paraguay, Sri Lanka and Egypt); for the UK engineering industry in national level negotiations with Government; and, for Hawker Siddeley Aviation in negotiation and financing of aircraft contracts to worldwide buyers.
